=Project e1984=

> What is this?

Project e1984 is my initiative to create/launch a more open space for sharing creative works compared to Discord or e6ai.net. What originally started as a simple imageboard has ballooned into a fully fledged ecosystem. I drew a LOT of inspiration from interacting with DeviantArt in the mid 2000s before it completely went to shit.

> Features:

Media submissions: Users can share their artwork, video, writings, and music.

Model submissions: Users can upload AI Models they have trained. (FFT and Lora/LoKr/DoRA/Ect.)

Character profiles: Users can upload reference sheets of their original characters

Journal entries: Users can post journal entries.

Collections: Users can display artwork created by others on their profile page, giving credit to the original artist.

Friend system: Users can designate one another as friends to share friends-only submissions.

Search system: A powerful tag based tool to find and discover artwork.

Simple Content Restrictions: Letting users decide what is appropriate to post outside of one golden rule. (“Can it be mistaken for a photograph of a human?”)

No Ads Advertising is the scourge of the internet and is not supported by e1984

> Why e1984?

The project name is actually a triple entendre.

e198-4 is the e number for Diethel Ether. A powerful cleaning solvent that we are using in this case to “clean away stigma” around both AI used in artwork and the kind of content that is allowed to be hosted.

Orwell’s 1984 is referenced because of the “Thought Police” attitudes held by staff at several of the current artwork sharing solutions.

e number naming is kept in the same vein of precursor sites like e621/e926. It is also a small jab at e6ai and their “everything must be perfect” attitudes.

> Technical Stuff:

Commercial Interest:
Unlike several other hosting providers (e6ai/CivitAI) e1984 was never designed to be a commercial interest or ever generate revenue. I started the project simply because I was frustrated with other solutions, as such it will never have any form of ad revenue or paid services. A Ko-Fi or Crypto donation button is something I have been considering but have not yet come to a decision on.

Longevity:
Hosting is being provided by my day job (which I am part owner) utilizing excess compute/storage. Due to the nature of the company we can expect hosting services to be stable for the next 10+ years without issues. Additionally, the modularity of the site design allows for outsourcing several components to other service providers without needing to reconfigure the site.

Censorship:
as e1984 operates outside of the US and EU it is not subject to ever changing censorship laws and draconian copyright systems prevalent in those regions. Content will never be censored on e1984 unless it violates the “Golden Rule”. Image copyright is handled through a clearly defined process that is simple for creators to follow.
